Larry Dean Givens of Burns, TN went to heaven on June 9, 2020. He left behind many family and friends that love and miss him.
At 17 Larry joined the United States Marine Corps. He was a proud 0311 Marine, and the experience shaped him into the man he became.
In spite of dropping out of school in the 9th grade, Larry ran his own landscaping and lawn care business for 36 years. He was the owner and the employee. Larry was the hardest working man around. He was dedicated to his customers. He was known for his attention to detail and was a perfectionist. He took pride in his work and looked at every job as a reflection of himself. He loved his customers, and they loved him.
Larry is survived by his wife, Kimberly of Burns, TN. His children Stacy Givens of Kingston Springs, Jason Givens of Nashville, TN, Roy Givens of Dickson, TN, Tyler (Sarah) Coffee of Columbia, TN, and Carter Coffee of Burns, TN. His siblings Brenda McKnight of Portland TN, David Givens of Camden, TN, and Martha (Tommy) Long of Goodlettsville, TN. Larry was also very close to his nephews, Bryan (Sharon) Harrison of White House, TN and James (Rhonda) Harrison of Springfield, TN. His grandchildren who he thought the world of and would do anything for: Katelyn Gupton, Abigail Givens, Pearl Givens, Allie Coffee, and Declan Coffee. Larry loved his family with all his heart.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Junior Dee Givens and Naomi (Anderson) Givens, his brothers Paul Givens, Roy Givens, and twin brother Gary Givens. Oliver Givens, his first grandson, preceded Larry in death in 2010.
The family would like to thank Dr. John Morse at Dickson Medical Associates, Dr. Dana Cardin at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Caris Healthcare in Dickson, and their staffs for the exceptional care given to Larry.
Larry always felt blessed and appreciated the support of all of his customers, but the love and kindness shown to him during his battle with cancer was amazing. His family will be forever grateful to Mr. and Mrs. John Shayne, Dr. and Mrs. David Taber, Drs. Martin and Glynis Sandler, and Mrs. Barbara Daane.
Kimberly would also like to thank her Coffee family, her work family at the City of Dickson, and her church family at Fairview Baptist Church in Dickson for their incredible love and support.
Larry accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior on July 20, 1980. He held on to God's promises always.
Following Larry's wishes a simple graveside service will be held on Friday, June 12th at 11 o'clock at Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens located at 9090 Highway 100 Nashville, TN. Brother Norman Edwards will be officiating. In lieu of flowers the family asks donations be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, The Wounded Warrior Project, or Fairview Baptist Church located at 501 Old Highway 46 Dickson, TN.
To say he was one of a kind is an understatement. He will forever be remembered by his crazy sayings and unique ways of doing things. He didn't believe in excuses or self- pity. He loved his country, and we would be wrong to not mention the fact that he absolutely loved President Donald Trump.
His family and friends will love him and miss him forever and always. Semper Fi, LD.
