Albert D Mitchell, as he would have said “went home to Glory” in his sleep on the morning of January 11, 2024. He was born on July 29, 1930. He was preceded in death by Gale Mitchell, his wife of 64 years, his brothers Roy and Troy Broadway and a daughter in law, Laura Mitchell. He is survived by his sister Ernestine Baird, son Curt Mitchell (wife Rebecca), his son Clif Mitchell (wife Ann), six grandchildren, Lindsey McComber (husband Justin), Whitney Crawford (husband Cody), Albert C. Mitchell (wife Lindsey), Donald Mitchell (wife Madison), Cannon West (wife Jacqueline), and Emily West and ten great grandchildren.
Albert taught and coached for 30 years in Nashville High Schools including Cohn, Madison, and Stratford. He was an active church member during his entire life, serving as a Deacon and later as an Elder along with being involved in the music ministry of several churches including two that he co-founded. He loved his Lord and savior Jesus Christ, his wife, children, grandchildren, and their spouses. He was “Pop” and could not have enjoyed being in that role any more than he did.
In addition to family, Albert was a proud West Nashvillian. He enjoyed a great number of very close friendships that dated back to his childhood and time at Cohn High School as a student, stayed in contact with several past players he had coached, students he had taught, teachers he had worked with, and dozens of lifelong friends through church. He touched many lives and will be greatly missed.
