Alfred Lee Thomason – Age 92, of Nashville, passed away October 29, 2021.
Al was born November 28, 1928 in Paducah, Kentucky to parents Jasper Lee and Arianna Thomason. He spent most of his childhood years in McKenzie, Tennessee where he played football as the star quarterback for the McKenzie High School Rebels. His senior year was cut short as he and several classmates enlisted in the United States Navy near the end of World War II where he served on the minesweeper U.S.S. Thompson along the coast of China.
After his tour with the Navy, he enrolled at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, joined the Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science and Business Administration degree. In July 1952, he married Lois Reighard and moved to New York City to begin his career in public accounting with Price Waterhouse. While there, he earned his license as a Certified Public Accountant but moved back to Tennessee in 1961 with the opening of the Nashville office of Price Waterhouse. His successful accounting career spanned over 60 years in a variety of positions from serving as controller for two private companies to being a partner in the firms of William Puryear and Co. and Bumpus, Hall, Myatt, Thomason, and Emory where he concluded his career after merging with Carr, Riggs, and Ingram. Al was a consummate professional dedicated to his clients, partners and staff.
Al’s joys in life were his family and faith first, lifelong friendships, collecting old books and records, Sherlock Holmes mysteries, listening to good music, the old homestead in McKenzie, college football, Wednesday night dinner at Sperry’s, and his 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife of almost 70 years, Lois; children Laura Baxter (Mark), Donna Nichols (Daryl), Cinda Goldberg (Larry), Jeffrey Thomason (Barbara); grandchildren, Chris Baxter (Candice), Kim Domke (Andrew), Adam Nichols (Susan), Dane Nichols, , Hank Nichols (Tyanna) , Mary Baylee Thomason, Briggs Thomason; great grandchildren, Lynleigh, Addison, and Ford Nichols, Ali, Natalie and Bennett Baxter, Andrew Domke.
