Alice Cowart Martin, 90, of Savannah, GA, and Hilton Head, SC, passed away in Nashville, TN, on Monday, June 5, 2017.
Born November 14, 1926, in Tallahassee, FL, she was the daughter of the late Edwin Earl Cowart, Sr., and the late Lena Mae Cooper Cowart. She graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in Sociology. For many years, she owned Alice Martin Realty, in Savannah, and worked subsequently as real estate broker with Rose Hill Plantation and sales executive with Sea Pines Realty in Hilton Head.
Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Colonel James Joseph Martin; and her brother, Edwin Earl Cowart, Jr. She is survived by her son, William B. Martin (Kris) of Nashville, TN; her daughter, Victoria Ann Panhans (Alex) of Hilton Head, SC; four grandchildren, Alyssa Kennedy, Michael Martin, Patrick Jones and Katie Jones; and four great-grandchildren, Keller Kennedy, Delaney Kennedy, Scott Martin and
Selma Martin.
Alice was loving and giving, and devoted her life to her family. She was very active in her church, and remains a faithful follower of our Lord Jesus Christ. Alice possessed a beautiful singing voice, knew every word to every song, loved to read, and filled notebooks with her original writing. She was also an accomplished artist, whose pastels grace the homes of many friends and patrons. She loved walking on the beach at Hilton Head,
and spending time playing with her grandchildren and attending all of
their activities.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Thursday, June 22, 2017, at Hillcrest Abbey East Cemetery in Savannah, with a reception following at the Savannah Golf Club to celebrate her life.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, D.C. 20090-6011.
