Ama Selu Ezell Dunnington
November 13, 1970 - June 17, 2020
Ama Dunnington was born Ama Selu Ezell to father Ronald Ezell, and mother Susan Freis Ezell, in San Francisco, CA on November 13, 1970. Her family only remained in San Francisco a short time before moving back to their farm in West Virginia, and from there to Washington, DC, where she grew up along with her brother, David Ezell. She met the Lord Jesus in 1991, after a winter stay with her father and step-mother, Judy Ezell. In 1994 she married her boyfriend from her teen years, Tim Dunnington, and started a 26-year family journey, during which she and husband Tim finished college and raised two children, Chance (16) and Petra (14). She battled her first bout of breast cancer in 2015, at age 44, and though it remained in remission for about 4 years, it nonetheless returned in January of 2019, leading to her death at age 49.
Ama was a gifted writer, a thinker, a loving wife and caring mother, a good friend, and most of all, a lover and servant of her Lord and Savior, Jesus. She graduated from Liberty University with a degree in Psychology, and volunteered her time at the Blue Ridge Pregnancy Center, counseling teens and helping run the office. In addition, she cared for and taught young children for many years at Bellevue Baptist Church, and served the Lord on mission in Honduras. She slipped quietly into His embrace on the morning of June 17, 2020, and will be in our hearts forever.
She is survived by her husband, Tim Dunnington; son Chance, and daughter Petra; brother David; step-father Richard Falknor; aunt Catherine Freis and uncle Richard Freis; cousins Adam Freis, Koré Hale, Katheryn Rodler, and Laura Stearman.
A memorial service and celebration of Ama's life is planned for June 27, 2020 at 10:00am at Forest Hills Baptist Church (http://fhbc.org).
