Amerigo Ralph Giannattasio, 96, of Nashville, TN died peacefully at his home on Tuesday, September 13, 2022.
Ralph was born on July 22, 1926 in the Bronx, NY. After high school, he attended City College and then earned a Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from NYU. He was a World War II veteran. He spent his career working at Sperry Gyroscope (now Unisys).
He met and married the love of his life, Caroline Rose Caruso, in 1967. They had one son, Vincent. They resided on Long Island in Manhasset, NY until moving to Nashville in 2019.
Ralph was gifted in science and math and was a life-long learner, especially enjoying history, Latin, and Italian. He had an exceptional memory and loved a structured routine.
Ralph’s hobbies included reading, listening to classical music, attending operas and symphonies in Manhattan, drinking fine wines, and enjoying Italian food and pastries.
Ralph was a quiet and kind man. He was a generous person and was always interested in others. He treasured his Italian heritage and was an active member of The Sons of Italy for many years.
Family was everything to Ralph. Being with and spoiling his grandchildren brought him great joy. He especially loved buying them ice cream and taking the whole family out to nice restaurants.
Ralph is survived by his wife of 54 years, Caroline, his son, Vincent (Maria) and grandchildren, Joseph and Alanna.
He is survived by two sisters, Terry Spiegel of Scarsdale, NY and Lilian Gleason of Woodland Hills, CA. He was preceded in death by his sister, Ines Crisa from Brooklyn, NY..
Ralph is also survived by nieces Paulette Spiegel, Helen Raguso, and Jo Ann Crisa-Borke, nephews Philip Spiegel, Anthony Crisa, Michael Gleason, Joseph Gleason, Jean Paul Gleason, and Greg Gleason, and many great nieces and nephews.
Funeral Mass will be held at St. Henry Catholic Church on September 22, at 11:00 am. Visitation will be that morning from 9:30-11:00.
