Anna Johnson

January 8, 1942 — September 11, 2024

Anna Johnson, born on January 8, 1942, left this world on September 11, 2024, surrounded by the warmth and love she so generously shared throughout her life. She was a beacon of joy and kindness, cherished by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She was the true definition of a Christian and lived this out with her faithfulness to First United Pentecostal Church, the church she attended since she was 18 years old.

Anna is preceded in death by her loving husband, Ernest Johnson; daughter, Tammy Johnson Batson; parents, Haskel and Mabel Neely; sister, Judith Tyler; brothers, Sam Neely, Milton Neely, and Buddy Neely.

Anna is survived by her granddaughter, LeAnna Batson; son-in-law, Nathan Batson; brother-in-law, Dean Tyler; as well as many other loved ones.

Anna was renowned for her culinary talents, which brought people together around the dinner table. Her famous chicken and dumplings, chicken salad, and delectable hot fudge cake found a special place not just in the hearts of her family, but in the community at large. In addition to helping run the kitchen for the Christmas village at her church, she and her husband established a pizza business, where they spread joy by the slice.

Beyond her culinary expertise, Anna's heart was her greatest gift. Known lovingly as “Nana” around town, she had the ability to connect with people, making each one feel seen and appreciated. She was a firm believer in the power of prayer, often expressing her faith through her compassionate actions. If she met you, she prayed for you—this was not simply a phrase but a heartfelt commitment she honored daily.

Anna played a vital role in hospitality care groups at church, where her nurturing spirit shone bright. She thrived in the role of a caregiver, not only as a loving nanny for families but as a friend who consistently offered support and encouragement. Even during the many losses in her own life, she found comfort in loving on those around her.

Anna Johnson’s legacy lives on in the many lives she touched, and the countless happy memories created around her kitchen table. Her servant heart and unwavering faith made her a beloved figure, and her influence will continue to ripple through the lives of all she loved. She will be deeply missed.
