Mrs. Audrey Jean Bishop Meyers of Nashville, TN, age 96, passed away on Monday, January 2nd, 2023.
Mrs. Meyers was born December 23rd, 1926 to William Almon Bishop and Mamie Belma Smith Bishop in Oak Park, Illinois. She grew up in Chicago, Illinois and graduated from the Lucy Flower Technical High School for Girls.
After graduation, Mrs. Meyers worked in the restaurant industry, earning a grand salary of $19.00 every two weeks. Eventually, she transferred all her efforts into the insurance realm, working at the Hartford Fire Insurance Company from 1944 to 1948. Her future spouse, Mr. Morris Joseph Meyers, came to work for the company in January of 1946 after returning from World War II. On Valentine’s Day of 1946, Morris brought Audrey a box of candy, and this began their beautiful life together.
In June of 1946, the couple got engaged. Mr. Meyers went to the jewelry store to pick out the special ring. He borrowed his mother’s car and picked Ms. Bishop up. While on their outing, he parked the car, and proposed. They were married on June 14, 1947 at Beverly Hills Baptist Church. The couple moved to Nashville, TN in 1950. Within Nashville, they found a home to raise a lovely family. Morris and Audrey were members of Concordia Lutheran Church and charter members of Our Savior Lutheran Church. Mrs. Meyers taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School at both Churches. She was also a member of the Quilting Group and Wendy’s baked potato Thursday luncheon group at OSLC, as well as the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and the Altar Guild. Outside of church, she was a Pink Lady Volunteer at St. Thomas Hospital from 1967 to the early 2000s. Audrey attended classes at Watkins Institute for Art and Sewing and was a member of the Home Demonstration Club. She, like her husband, was a member of the Blue Goose International Association for Insurance.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Morris Joseph Meyers; her son, Eric Paul Meyers; her brother, William A. Bishop, Jr.
Mrs. Meyers is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Marilyn and Bill Bell and Janis Meyers and Ralph Gunter; grandchildren, Jacque and Scott Childers, Bonnie Bell, and Erik Gunter; great-grandchildren, Madison, Milbrey, and Mason Childers, Hailee and Montana Gunter; sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and John Adams; and many nieces and nephews, including Skip and Karen Sorensen, Richard and Sharon Sorensen, Debbie and Steve Skopec, Linda and Rob Rooney, Keith and Tiffany Duck and families.
