Barbara Ruth Cowell- October 8, 1926 - March 13, 2016.

Preceded in death by her parents, Erma Ruth and Dempsey Gupton; husband, William Preston; brothers, John and Tom; granddaughter, Stacy Renee Cowell.

She is survived by her sons, Robert Preston Cowell (Gloria) and Steven Michael Cowell (Amy); grandchildren, Robby and Melissa; sister, Mary Martha Hamilton; many nieces and nephews.

She is remembered for instilling the love of music in hundreds of children and adults on the west side of Nashville during her 40 plus year career as a piano teacher; and for nurturing the children of West Nashville Cumberland Presbyterian Church as a Sunday school teacher.

In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to the Stacy Renee Cowell Memorial Fund at Nashville Christian School (Attention Linda Brown, 7555 Sawyer Brown Road, Nashville, TN 37221), The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or Proverbs 12:10 Animal Rescue.

Visitation will be 11 a.m. -1 p.m. on Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at 1 p.m. on Tuesday at Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens.
