Barbara Young Higgins, 67, fortified by the Sacraments of the Catholic church, entered into eternal life Saturday, December 3, 2016 at St. Thomas Midtown Hospital in Nashville, TN.
Barb was born on September 7, 1949 in Springfield MA, raised in Anderson SC by parents, Doris (White) and John Young.
She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology from Furman University, Greenville, SC. Following, Barb moved to Nashville, TN where she studied and received her Masters in Audiology from Vanderbilt University. Through her professional life, she worked and served at the Vanderbilt Bill Wilkerson Center as well as at the St. George's Episcopal Preschool.
Barb is survived by her husband of 40 years, Paul Higgins, her 3 loving daughters, Erin Higgins, Megan (Clark) Sturdevant, and Mandy (John) Peirick, her granddaughter Maxx Sturdevant, and brother Tom (Sue Phillips) Young.
She, so bravely and joyfully, battled 2 rounds of breast cancer, then finally metastasized cancer over the last 7 years of her life. She often said that if her life and battle against cancer could bring hope and inspiration to the people God put in her path, then it was worth it and His will be done.
Visitation will be held at St. Henry Catholic Church in the narthex from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Tuesday, December 6. The Funeral Mass will be held at St. Henry Catholic Church at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, December 7.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 2000 Charlotte Ave, Nashville, TN 37203.
