MEADOWS, Barbara Ann Montgomery

Barbara Meadows, 85, of Nashville, passed away on November 3, 2016. She was born October 3, 1931 in Memphis, TN to William J. and Agnes Pitts Montgomery. Barbara was a graduate of Belmont College. She was highly skilled nurse who was in charge of the 3-11 shift at Vanderbilt University Hospital. Her responsibilities included mediating between the nursing and medical staff regarding any error made in the hospital, so she carried a heavy responsibility. Previously, she taught psychiatric nursing and was a guidance counselor in a school of nursing. To begin with, she was the school nurse at Belmont University. She later decided to change her vocation and received a degree in library science, was on the staff of the Vanderbilt University Library, became the chief librarian of the Science Library and finally the Head Librarian of the Veterans Administration Library, where she served the physicians of that institution. Thus, throughout her life, she served people's needs in both medical and library facilities, and was highly respected.

She was married to Christopher Madison Meadows III. She was a loving mother to her surviving daughter, Wanda Lynn Meadows of Nashville; siblings Rita Mack, Nancy Sasser and Bill Montgomery.

Barbara was preceded in death by her infant son, Madison Scott Meadows; her sister, Bettie Jean Cloud, and parents.

Barbara was a member of Woodmont Baptist Church and a devout Christian. Her loving and gentle spirit will always be remembered by those who had the privilege of knowing her. Burial is at Elmwood Cemetery, Memphis, TN, noon, November 8th.
