Barbara Jean Thomas, age 86 of Franklin Tennessee passed away on October 5, 2020. She was born November 8, 1933, in New Augusta, Mississippi to Lewis Edward and Audrey Mills Turner. She is preceded in death by her sister, Mary Grissom and her brother, John Turner and beloved son-in-law David Attaway. She is survived by her daughters, Janet Attaway and Jean (Buddy) Ferguson, grandchildren, Ashlee Attaway, Aaron (Danielle) Ferguson, Nathan (Julianne) Attaway, Sarah (Jeremy) McCoy, Anne Ferguson, great-grandchildren, Mariah, Micah, Dylan, Raven and June, great-great-grandson, Camden, sisters, Geraldine Mariakais and Julia Jeske and brother, Lewis Turner.
Barbara was a court reporter and worked on high profile cases such as the Hoffa jury inquiry, Gurley murder trial, James Earl Ray statement and the Waverly train wreck trial among others. She was a very strong woman who loved her family especially her grandchildren and her dog Jake. She also loved gardening and cooking, and after retirement she started Barbara's Home Cookin'.
Visitation with the family will be on Wednesday October 7, 2020 from 4-8 at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home and on Thursday 9-10 am with a Celebration of Life service to follow at 10 AM at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project, Leukemia Lymphoma Society or Benton Hall Academy.
