Barbee Jean Wright

Barbee Jean Wright age 85, of Nashville, Tennessee passed away on September 27, 2022.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Evie Lee Wilkerson; son, Charles Leon Wright, Jr; siblings, (Wilkerson), Ruth, Evie Sue, Pauline, Mary, James Wilburn, Robert, and William.

Survived by daughter Connie (John) Freeman; daughter in law, Tifanie Wright; grandchildren, Evie Freeman, Morgan Wright, Chase Wright; brother, Larry (Vickie) Wilkerson, many dear nieces and nephews, and her very special significant other, James Shacklett.

Jean was born in Greenbrier, TN on February 16th, 1937. A west Nashville native, she attended Cohn High School and Watkins Institute. She was part of a friend group called the Hill Gang with which she enjoyed reuniting over the years.

Jean found employment at Harvey’s Department Store from 1957-1958. She put in 29 years of hard work at Direct Oil Corporation/Teneco in Brentwood. Jean retired from Consumer’s Oil on 8th Avenue South after 11 years. She was a member of the Moose Lodge and took part in club dinners. Jean attended Barth Vernon United Methodist church in her later years.

Jean wore several different hats and is remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, supportive friend, a dancer, and a music lover. She had a long history of providing help to her family and her wide circle of friends when they needed her. Jean was a great listener and others often came to her because of that; she would observe the situations of others with care and offer support. Nicknamed GG by her first granddaughter, she loved being a grandmother. Dances were her happy place; she enjoyed going to jam sessions with her beloved friends. Jean frequented Ashland City Senior Center, Lois’ Place, John A’s, and many other music venues. She was a spunky, sharp dresser with a quick wit who liked to laugh.

There will be visitation Saturday, October 1, 2022 from 9:00am ~ 10:00am with a Celebration of Life at 10:00am at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home 9090 Highway 100 Nashville Tennessee 37221.
