Barbra Haltom Young completed her earthly journey on July 19, 2024, surrounded by her husband and sisters after a courageous battle with an aggressive cervical cancer. Barbra was born and raised in Nashville Tennessee. She graduated from St. Cecilia Academy, then attended the University of Tennessee in Knoxville where she graduated cum laude. Barbra completed a Master’s Degree from University of Georgia at Athens, Georgia.
As a young girl Barbra was a noted athlete. She was a talented swimmer and diver for Hillwood Country Club, played Tennis at St Cecilia Academy, and was a gymnast at the University of Tennessee.
Barbra taught at Overbrook School from 1977-1981. She was then recruited by Mr. Hayworth Parks to become their first Female Medical sales representative. She worked for Mr. Parks for 20 years and enjoyed every minute of it. Parks Inc. was bought out by McKesson where she worked for an additional 20 years in medical sales. In 1982, Barbra met the love of her life, Jay Young. Married in December of 1985, Barbra and Jay enjoyed 39 extraordinary years of marriage. They were always together because they just loved being with one another.
Barbra was preceded in death by her father, Thomas Branson Haltom, and her mother, Anne O’Connor Haltom. She is survived by her husband Jay Young; sisters Helen Pettegrew, Katie Haltom (Larry Joyce), and Sister Mary Justin Haltom; nieces Elizabeth Owens (Brent), Laura Grant (Rod) and nephew, Justin Ousley (Amy); great-nieces and nephews Branson Browning, Brennan Browning Lewis (Leigh), Connor Browning, Hayley Grant, Nicky Grant, Sophia Ousley, and Ella Ousley.
Visitation with the family will be held at Christ the King Church on Thursday August 1, 2024 from 1-4 pm. A Mass of the Resurrection will be offered for Barbra on Friday, August 2, 2024 at 1:00 pm at Christ the King Church. Interment will follow immediately at Woodlawn Cemetery.
Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Cecilia Congregation.
