Ben was reared on the Cumberland mountains He says that's the highest raising one can get unless they get a switching with a limb. He experienced a childhood upbringing in a log cabin and a long log house. The challenges of life have been abundant. furnishing many opportunities to joke about the frailties and triumphs.

Ben has one brother and five sisters making a family of nine, which didn't provide any chances for spoilage. After high school, he tried his hand at many different jobs and finally with his military service over went to barber school just to try something else, to make a better living. Much to his surprise he began to like sculpturing hair. This new experience turned out to be a career of forty years, He's now barbering part time to keep this talent from rusting and corroding.

Ben and wife Cheryl raised three girls and two boys in that order, whom turned out to be good respectable citizens.
