departed this life on Monday, March 5, 2018. She was born July 1, 1929, at the family home in Headland, Alabama, and moved to Nashville when she was eight years old. A graduate of East High School, where she was a standout basketball player, and Peabody College, she was the first in her family to earn a college degree.
It was at one of those East High basketball games that she met the love of her life, John Randolph Bibb, former Sports Editor of the Tennessean. They were married on December 20, 1949, at Lockland Baptist Church in East Nashville. She delighted in traveling with her husband as he covered Super Bowls and Sugar Bowls, U.S. Open golf tournaments and most of all, the Kentucky Derby. They remained inseparable for nearly 50 years until Mr. Bibb's death in 1999.
Mrs. Bibb taught in the public schools of Nashville and Davidson County for almost 30 years. She was a member of the Metro Nashville Education Association, Tennessee Education Association, and National Education Association. She was also a life member of the VFW Auxiliary, where her late brother, Willis Grice, served as commander of Post 1970.
Mrs. Bibb was predeceased by her parents, Charles Kinsey Grice and Bernice Wilkinson Grice, her brothers, Charles Arthur Grice, Willis Byrd Grice, and John Carlos Grice, her sister, Ruth Grice Melvin, and an infant granddaughter, Laura Randolph Bibb.
Mrs. Bibb is survived by her son, John Randolph Bibb, Jr. (Brenda), her granddaughter, Jean-Marie Elizabeth Clark (Ryan), two great-granddaughters, Marjorie Bibb Clark and Evelyn Marie Clark, and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff at Barton House and Avalon Hospice for their care, comfort and support over the period of her final illness.
In accordance with Mrs. Bibb's wishes, her body will be cremated and interred next to her husband at a private family graveside service at the Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens, with Pastor Frank Owens of the Sylvan Park Free Will Baptist Church officiating. Memorials may be made in her name to Sylvan Park Church, Peabody College of Vanderbilt University, or The Dominican Campus.
