Bettye June Cole Cathey, 90, of Sugar Land, Texas, formerly of Nashville, Tennessee passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, September 18, 2022.
She was born in Kinder, Louisiana on October 23,1931 to Edith and Thomas Cole. After graduating from high school, she moved to Houston, Texas. There she met and married the love of her life, William Robert Cathey. The two of them lived in Texas, Japan, Virginia, Illinois, and Nebraska before moving to Nashville, Tennessee in 1959. Bettye stayed home to raise her five children in West Nashville until they all graduated from high school. She was a devoted and loving mother who encouraged her children to read, study and work hard. After her husband’s death, she worked part-time as a receptionist at Tarkington Showroom. In 1994, she retired and moved to Sugar Land, Texas to be closer to family. In her post-retirement years, she enjoyed traveling, activities at her local senior center and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She never turned down an opportunity to go to the beach or on a vacation with her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Edith Cole; her husband William Robert Cathey; her sisters Edna Langley and Janette Evans and her brothers Artie Cole and Sid Cole.
She is survived by her five children and their spouses: Roxanne Cathey Farrar and her husband Jim; Bill Cathey; Marcus Cathey and his wife Patty; Bob Cathey and his wife Ariane; and Miles Cathey and his wife Sherri. Her 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren thought she was “The Best Nana in the Whole, Wide World”.
