Ms. Merle Marable Ralston, age 96, of Franklin, TN passed away on February 5, 2018 at NHC on Cool Springs Blvd. She was born on November 28, 1921 to the late John Marvin Westmoreland and Sallie Simmons Westmoreland. She grew up with ten siblings and is survived by two, Joyce Hendren and Joan Smith.
Along with her parents she is preceded in death by her husband James Richard Marable Sr. and her husband Waddell Ralston. She is also preceded in death by one great-grandchild Brice Townsend.
Along with her sisters, she is survived by her four children, James R. Marable Jr.(Judy), Rebecca Creed Berwick, Sue Bowman(Jim), and Dwight Marable(Linda). She is also survived by her nine grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren and seventeen great-great-grandchildren.
Ms. Merle was a strong and devoted Christian, being an avid student of the Word of God, she held a lifelong dedication for Bible study. Not only did she know the Word, she followed Christ's teachings, expressing compassion and love to those who needed to know the love of God in her life. This was easily visible by her outreach not only locally but around the world. She reached out by mail to prisoners, missionaries, and others, while offering friendship and hospitality to those in her world who were isolated or foreigners, those needing community. Her multiple generation family was always comforted by her consistent love and unwavering support. Those who cared for her in her later years often said, "I hope that I can age as gracefully and lovingly as Merle."
A Life Celebration service will be held on Thursday, February 8, 2018 in the chapel of Harpeth Hills Funeral Home at 2:30pm. Visitation will be held on the same day starting at 12:00pm and lasting until the time of service. Burial will follow in Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens.
