Beverly Aletha Van Hook. Born January 26th, 1940, in Nashville Tennessee on the day the Cumberland River froze, passed peacefully on January 13th, 2025, just before her 85th birthday. She spent her life since childhood holding any hand that reached out, fighting for anyone who could not, and was even blessed to have saved the lives of three people including her nephew.
B and her two loving siblings Anita Ella and Carl Henry grew up in West Nashville with parents Willie Virginia and Wallace Leech. The trio spent much treasured time with family growing up: the Collins, the Binkleys, the Mangrums, the Leeches. B attended Richland Grade School before graduating from Bellevue High in 1958 then settling into her newly built house in Charlotte Park. She continued to live there her whole life, and the home she made will be kept in the family.
From bank teller at the then First American Gold Dome up to Assistant Vice President of Credit Department at the Downtown Branch, Beverly was a driven and successful businesswoman who always walked with her shoulders back. All while raising two daughters Deb and Sherry; being present for her nephews and niece June Bug, Greg, and Pam; being a support for Anita, with her husband Wendell, and Carl, with his wife Linda; and devoting time to her ill parents.
In 1981, she met Butch Van Hook, the light of her life. Together for 44 years the two made a life full of love, experience, and support sharing it with their blended Bebout and Van Hook families. They continued spreading joy with grandnieces and nephew Paige with husband Brandon, Kacey, and Brad; grandkids Brandi with husband Carlos and Cody with wife Sully. The house on Continental always had an open door, and how she wished the next generation had time here too. Kylie, Abby, Carter, Ikah, Leo, and so many more. B battled illnesses for many years but gave her all to her family.
This amazing woman never backed down from any adversity and showed us it can forge you into something greater. Beverly Aletha Van Hook gave unconditional love, unlimited laughter, never did normal, and always had time “in a minute” no matter the reason.
We love you, Mama B.
