Bonnie Buresh, 89, died peacefully on February 12th, 2019 in Nashville, TN. She was devoted to her husband, her children, her faith and the nursing profession.
Born September 19, 1929 in Aurelia, IA, Bonnie was the 2nd of 4 children born to Harold and Marguerite (Mason) Toner. She was a 1947 graduate of East High School and a 1950 graduate of St. Joseph Mercy School of Nursing, both in Sioux City, Iowa. Bonnie worked as a Registered Nurse until retirement in 1988.
Bonnie married Tom K. Buresh, her high school sweetheart, on October 7, 1950. While Tom earned his college degree and they began their family, she worked in hospitals in Sioux City and Ames, Iowa. In 1955, they moved their young family to Marshalltown, IA where together they raised their 8 children and built "the big red barn" at the corner of W. Olive & S. 6th streets. Bonnie worked in nearly every department in Marshalltown hospitals...her favorites being the newborn nursery and ER. She worked with special needs children while she was school nurse for Pleasant Hill School on S. 12th street. Finally, she worked as an office nurse for Rufus Kruse, MD before retiring. Bonnie belonged to both St. Mary and St. Henry Catholic Churches while in Marshalltown.
Bonnie and Tom moved to Fort Myers in 1989, basking in the glorious Florida sunshine for the next 14-years. In 2003, they relocated to Franklin, TN where they spent the next 10 years together enjoying their home, their favorite-dog-ever, Boss, and many celebrations with their large family. They attended St. Matthew Catholic Church while in Franklin.
Bonnie and Tom were devoted sweethearts for 69 years and devoted spouses for 63 years when Tom passed away in December of 2013.
At her death, Bonnie resided at NHC Place at the Trace. She made many friends there - particularly at mealtimes, happy hours and bingo games. Bonnie developed special bonds with the caregivers - especially the nurses at both NHC-Place & Brookdale Belle Meade...as she was one of them and shared their passion for nursing and caregiving.
Bonnie is survived by her large family. Her 8 children: Judi Robertson (Bob) of Nashville, TN, Tom J (Danelle Guthrie) of Oakland, CA, Dan of Issaquah, WA, Mary Hand (Kevin Fowler) of Tama, IA, Nancy Goecke (Jeff) of State Center, IA, Bob (Kelli Isgrig) of Springfield, IL, John (Jaimie Potter) of Leesburg, VA, and Jeff (Anne) of Charlotte, NC.
