Brenda Mccurdy

Brenda Darlene Taylor McCurdy, born August 5, 1943 in Bluefield, West Virginia, went to sleep in Jesus on March 25, 2023 at the age of 79.

Brenda joins in peaceful rest her husband, Ray McCurdy, of 22 years; her mother, Eula J Foster; and her sister, Patsy Odom. She is survived by her son David Van Voorst and his wife Emily, her son Tim Van Voorst, her step-daughter Michelle Ardisson, step-son Tyson McCurdy, and 8 grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister and best friend, Peggy Culpepper; her very special Aunt Wanda Mitchell; and her cousin Dennis Mitchell.

Brenda graduated from Shenandoah Valley Academy in New Market, Virginia and worked as an administrative assistant, in an orthodontic office and most recently for Flight Safety International, before retiring. Brenda enjoyed reading, gardening, word games, card games, jigsaw puzzles, and traveling. She was always up for a road trip and enjoyed visiting with friends and family along the way. Brenda attended the Peachtree Seventh-day Adventist church in Peachtree City, GA and was a very active member in her church. She enjoyed singing in the choir and playing the piano.

Brenda will be deeply missed by all those who love her and we look forward to that day when the trumpet will sound and we will be reunited.

Please join us as we celebrate her life with visitation on Sunday, April 2, 2023 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at Oakey’s North Chapel, 6732 Peters Creek Rd. NW, Roanoke, VA 24019 and a graveside service on Monday, April 3, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, 5737 Airport Rd NW, Roanoke, VA 24012.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Sam Giammarino and his wonderful team of individuals in Memory Care for their competent and compassionate care of Brenda during her residence at Clarendale at Bellevue Place and to the fine team of individuals at Heart’n Soul Hospice in Nashville, Tennessee.
