Brigitta Zimmermann was born in Berlin, Germany on August 12, 1935. During
her childhood, she and her family survived heavy Allied bombing raids on the
Kreuzberg district of downtown Berlin and the later Russian offensive, which
reached the southern suburb where they had built a wooden shack to escape the
air raids. After working as a seamstress in post-war Germany, she first came to
the United States in the mid-1950s as the wife of a U. S. Army soldier, 1SG
Morris W. Squier, spending nearly 14 years as an Army wife on bases in
Germany, Kansas, Washington and Georgia and off-base in Florida (divorced
after 17 years). In 1972 she married Hermann F. Zimmermann and made
Nashville her home. She became a Registered Nurse after obtaining her
Associate's Degree from TSU in 1986 and worked for a time in both home care
and hospital settings. In addition to being an excellent homemaker, she also
worked as the accountant for Hermann's business, High Point Graphics. She
was happily married to Hermann for 41 years until his death in 2013. They
shared a green thumb and were both accomplished gardeners. Slowly but
surely, Hermann was infected with Brigitta's great love for animals, while he
improved her appreciation of art and music.

Her life was irrevocably molded by her experiences during World War II and its
aftermath, experiences shared by many who have been subjected to the horrors
of war. In spite of those hardships, she maintained an enduring positive attitude,
always willing to exchange love and strength with her family and friends, old and
new. She kept this positive outlook throughout her life, to the best of her ability,
including her final battle against ALS. At the end, she held fast to her faith in
God, who had brought her safely through so many trials.

She was preceded in death by her mother, father and stepmother in her native
Germany and leaves as survivors two sisters in Germany, Inge Reuter and
Regina Propper, her son, Kenneth Squier, her stepson Fritz Zimmermann,
stepdaughters Karen Mevis, Lisa Russell and Holly Byrd, all in the Nashville
area, one nephew and three nieces in Germany and six step grandchildren in
Tennessee and Virginia.

She was a remarkable woman and will be deeply missed. A memorial service will
be held at 3 PM on June 4, 2018 with visitation 1 hour prior at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home, 9090 Highway 100, Nashville, TN 37221.
