Buenah Harness Combs, 87, passed away August 4, 2021 at her home in Fairview, Tenn. She died peacefully, cuddled in her daughter Carol's arms with her granddaughter Amy by her side.
Buenah was a beautiful, kind soul who loved all living things. Throughout her life she found the greatest pleasure with the company of her pets, followed closely by her love for plants and flowers. She was an accomplished seamstress and she enjoyed painting with acrylics and oil.
Buenah was the wife of the late John Ronald Combs of Huntsville, Ark. She was born September 14,1933 in Thola, Ark., the daughter of Arthel Harness and Okla Richardson. Buenah lost both of her parents at a young age, and was raised by her great uncle and aunt, Thomas and Martha Richardson.
Buenah graduated from Marshall High School, Class of 1952. Following graduation Buenah moved to Little Rock and enrolled in Draughon’s School of Business. On June 30, 1956, Buenah married John Ronald Combs. They welcomed their only child, Linda Carol Combs on June 22, 1957.
Buenah worked as a Public School Secretary from 1966 to 1975. In 1975 she enrolled in the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in education in 1979. She was an active member of the Kappa Delta Pi sorority.
She enjoyed her teaching career with elementary age students but treasured her years instructing gifted and talented students.
In addition to her biological and foster parents, she was predeceased by her husband John in 2013, and her granddaughter Joan Rose Burgess in 2012. She is survived by her daughter Carol Combs Burgess and husband Sam; her granddaughter, Amy Burgess; and three great grandchildren, Calli Rose, Mason Cole, and Eleanor Marie, all of Fairview.
Funeral services will take place at Harpeth Hills Memorial Garden, beginning with visitation from 5-6 p.m. The funeral will be officiated by Reverend Dave Gerber of Guardian Hospice at 6:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make donations in Buenah’s honor to Proverbs 12:10 Animal Rescue at proverbs1210rescue.org or a local organization supportive of animal rescue and care.
