Carl Hickman Hudson died peacefully at home in Nashville on November 9, 2017. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Richard Hudson and Adelaide Schofield Hudson, his brother John Richard Hudson II, and sister Mary Hudson Worley. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Silvine Harrold Hudson, his children Molly Hudson Calvo, Carl Deering Hudson (Jennie Raymond), Fran Hudson Oneal (John Oneal), grandchildren Adelaide Oneal Xie (James Xie), Beth Calvo, Owen Oneal, and Dayanna Fitzpatrick. Other survivors include his brother Henry Traylor Hudson, devoted sisters-in-law Frances Long Harrold, Nancy Harrold Thomas and Ethel Mintz Hudson, and many nieces and nephews.
He was born on July 2, 1928, in Macon, Georgia. He was a graduate of Lanier High School (Class of 1946) where he was a varsity athlete and an officer in the ROTC. He attended Georgia Tech as a scholarship athlete and member of the football team. He was proud of Georgia Tech's record of success and bowl game appearances during his years on the team and remained an enthusiastic supporter and alumnus.
He married Silvine Marbury Harrold on September 27, 1952, in Macon, Georgia. They fondly recall having met in the 7th grade, and both maintained ties to their junior high and high school friends in all the years that followed. He worked as an engineer, farmer, sales manager, and ultimately independent business owner in Nashville, Tennessee. He was a faithful church member all of his life and an active member of St. George's Episcopal Church in Nashville for over 40 years. He was an avid tennis and bridge player and was committed to redressing the problem of homelessness in the United States. He was a loving husband, caring father, loyal friend, and exemplary citizen.
A visitation with the family will be held at St. George's Episcopal Church, 4715 Harding Road, at 10:30 on November 15, 2017. A Service of the Burial of the Dead will follow at 11:30 at the church. A private service of Interment will take place at Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens on a later date.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to Habitat for Humanity, the Nature Conservancy, or the charity of one's choice are appreciated.
