Death of a Gentleman
Carl A. Schreiber died peacefully in his sleep December 15, 2019 after spending the day with some of those who loved him. He lived in Nashville for 35 years. Carl and Macie, his wife of 36 years, loved spending time with family, friends and neighbors. They enjoyed square dancing.
Born in Philadelphia, PA, Carl attended Norwood Academy and LaSalle College High School. After he graduated from Villanova University in 1955, he served 5 years in the U.S. Navy as a Patrol Pilot Commander in the North Atlantic and Mediterranean areas. Carl's career was in business solutions. He was on the cutting edge of the personal computer, selling computer time-sharing. He was a marketing wizard helping businesses know their potential customers.
Carl was a child of nature and apprenticed at a young age to the falconer, Cornelius McFadden. He could be seen riding his bike in the area with a great horned owl perched on his handlebars. Area veterinarians would contact him to nurse injured raptors back to the wild. He loved his red-tailed hawks. Photography was his hobby and he focused on nature and portraits. Macie was such a good sport as he loved taking candid photos of her. Carl was a storyteller: his wide travels and keen eye gave him a unique perspective to take you to a place you have never been or to see what was right in front of you.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Marie (Waldecker) Schreiber, his wife, Macie (Ellis) Schreiber and his brother, Bernard Schreiber.
He is survived by his sister, Elizabeth (Schreiber) Schanne and many loving members of the Ellis and Schanne families.
Visitation with family will be at St. Henry Catholic Church, 6401 Harding Pike, Nashville, on Tuesday, January 7th at 10:00AM, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00AM and Military Honors at the Church. Burial will follow in the First Canaan Baptist Church cemetery, Palmyra, TN.
In lieu of flowers, remember Carl at the charity of your choice
