Born in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico on July 14, 1954
Departed on January 20, 2019 and resided in Nashville, Tennessee
Ms. Carmen Llorens, age 64, of Nashville passed away at her residence on January 20, 2019. She was born on July 14, 1954 in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico to Ana Herminia Lebron and Jorge Llorens. She received her Bachelors' Degree in Psychology and worked odd jobs while dealing with chronic and severe health problems. She enjoyed working with children and elders most of all and they were drawn to her easy-going personality and loving nature. Carmen was also a gifted writer, especially of poetry.
Carmen was the oldest of nine brothers and sisters, and the leader of her family. She experienced chronic illness and endured numerous operations since the age of 12. For her brothers and sisters, she set the example of what it is to be strong in spirit even when the body fails, to power through hardship and to appreciate the beauty of each day. She cherished family and she cultivated lifetime friendships.
In 1991, Carmen received a heart transplant and was Vanderbilt's 100th heart transplant recipient.
Seven months later, she participated in and completed the Music City Triathlon, held at Percy Priest Lake. Her family is forever grateful to the individual and family who gave her a new heart and added 28 more years to her life; and grateful to Vanderbilt's Cardiac, Transplant and Intensive Care Units for all the years of the highest possible quality care.
Carmen, preceded in death by youngest brother, Tom Walker, and youngest sister, Terry Lee Walker, is survived by her sisters and brothers, Dorthy Lebron, Bud Walker, JT Walker, Michael Walker, Theresa McMurtry, Richard Walker and Bill McMurtry; lifetime friends, Lillian Cisneros, Jessi Ray and Matthew Perry; and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Carmen's favorite charity, St Joseph Hospital for Children, or Alive Hospice.
A celebration of her life will be held at the Greater Nashville Church from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Saturday, January 26, 2019. Light refreshments will be on hand. Just bring your stories to share.
