Mrs. Carolyn Armstrong, age 78, of Moore, South Carolina, formerly of Centerville, Tennessee, passed away on January 23, 2023, at Pelham Medical Center.
Carolyn was born on October 13, 1944, in Pleasantville, Tennessee, to the late John Rowland and Vera Chessor Deering. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elmo Armstrong; her sister, Beverly Deering Ketchel; and her brother, Steve Deering.
Survivors include her daughter, Lynn (Danny) Robertson, and granddaughter Anna Robertson, of Moore, South Carolina; her sister, Glennon Deering Scott, of Lafayette, Tennessee; her niece, Jordan Thuesen Lawing, of Lafayette; and her great-niece, Leslie Thuesen, who she loved as if she were her own daughter or granddaughter, also of Lafayette.
Carolyn worked at Levi Strauss & Company in Centerville, Tennessee, and later at Springs Bath Fashions in Nashville. Throughout the years, she also ran several small businesses. Carolyn and her husband Elmo co-owned Armstrong Fried Pies in Centerville in the 1980s, and after her “retirement” Carolyn started a new fried pie business, which she ran for several years.
Carolyn’s favorite role in life, however, was being a mother and grandmother. “Nannie,” as she was affectionately called, especially loved being able to care for “her girls” - granddaughter Anna and great-niece Leslie - when they were little.
