Carolyn Trost Havens

March 15, 1933 — March 8, 2025

Nashville

Carolyn Trost Griffin Havens – Born March 15th, 1933, in Montgomery, Alabama died suddenly on March 8th, 2025.

Carolyn lived in Linden and Tuscaloosa Alabama, also, in Miami, New York City, Atlanta, and Lubbock, TX. But she lived the longest in Nashville, Tennessee, which she called Home!

Carolyn traveled the world extensively, visiting family, friends and former students. She corresponded frequently with Pelle in Sweden, Uwe in Germany, Martina in Austria, Yuko in Japan and so many more.

She was a collector of people, many, many people.

The family would laugh that Carolyn could not pump her own gas but traveled by herself to Czechoslovakia (before it split) to teach high school students English, while not knowing a word of Slovak. We imagined her students learned to speak English with a soft Southern drawl.

During her stay in Bratislava, Carolyn reconnected with her High School Beau via letter writing. When Carolyn and Clark were both finally on the same continent and both being widowed, he proposed and off they sailed on Clark’s boat, the “Scholar Gypsy” on which they lived and sailed the Atlantic for their first year of Marriage.

After a time they became “land locked” in Texas and then moved back to Nashville only to cruise the world into their late eighties. They had a

world map on their wall where they inserted pins everywhere they had been and let’s just say, there were too many to count.

Carolyn is survived by her Children; Grey Griffin, Andrew Griffin (Japan), Marguerite (Mike) Dunne, Alex Griffin, Stephanie Kisselburg, Theresa Havens (Mike) (Marble, CO), Colin Havens (Ft.Worth, TX)
