Catherine Sharp Fox
Nashville, TN

Loving and beloved mother, grandmother and friend to all, Catherine (Cathie) Sharp Fox passed away May 13, 2017, at the age of 81 following a brief illness.

Cathie was born in Glasgow, Scotland, on Aug. 20, 1935, the daughter of John Sharp and Sarah O'Donnell Sharp. She immigrated to Philadelphia, PA, in 1952 and married her adoring husband, John C. (Jack) Fox, in 1958. She proudly became a U.S. citizen before moving to Nashville in 1972. They were married for 51 years before his death in 2009. Together they raised seven children for whom she was the sun around which they orbited.

She was a dedicated and loyal friend to everyone she met, bringing love and laughter into each life she touched. Her friends, in turn, enhanced her life immeasurably. She was 'Nana' to nine grandchildren who loved nothing more than to witness one of her spontaneous cases of the giggles. Cathie's creative spirit was poured forth in her painting, quilting, knitting, sewing, photography, ceramics, gardening and line dancing. Born with a servant's heart, she shared her time, talent and treasure abundantly with those in need whether it was providing food, prayer, monetary support or companionship. She was the embodiment of living well while doing good. She was a member of St. Henry Catholic Church and shared her deep faith with her Cursillo and prayer groups. Among her many volunteer activities, she lovingly maintained the prayer chain for St. Henry and received much joy from her volunteer work with the preschool class. She was a 20-year volunteer at Saint Thomas Hospital gift shop. Her impact on those who were blessed to know her will leave a hole in our lives that cannot be filled, but her love will sustain us.

Cathie was predeceased by her husband, Jack, and is survived by her children, John Fox (Kathy Neus) of Cincinnati, Ohio; Michael Fox (Sara) of Winston-Salem, NC; Peter Fox of Nashville; Kathy Whitney (Russell) of Nashville; Ann Cannon (Rob) of Nashville; Joan Fox (Rodney Mann) of Chicago; and Beth Fox (Eric Sebzda) of Nashville; her sister, Johan Hughes, of Pennsauken, NJ; niece Eileen Oporto of Thorndale, PA; nephews Paul David Hughes of Shanghai, China, and Andrew Hughes of Knoxville; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Francis and Elizabeth Mulcahy, of Media, PA; and nine adoring grandchildren. Visitation with the family will be held at St. Henry Catholic Church on May 18, 5:30-7:30 p.m. A Mass in celebration of Cathie's wonderful life will be held at St. Henry on May 19 at 10:00 a.m. followed by a graveside burial at Harpeth Hills Memory Garden Cemetery. In lieu of sending flowers, Cathie would have preferred you plant flowers. Or learn to dance, volunteer, feed the birds, walk with a neighbor, or simply befriend someone.
