Catherine Bullock Sweeney, January 2, 1924-May 26, 2014, was the essence of a loving wife and mother in the honor and strength of "the greatest generation". She was beautiful and stylish with a bright smile. She was a great cook and baker and kept a beautiful home - incredibly while raising six children and loving her husband in their 52 years of marriage. Donna Reed and June Cleaver could have taken lessons from her. Her faith was in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. We know he loves her. We do too. She was beautiful in appearance as well as in spirit and demeanor - always sweet and supportive and strong. When her husband James became disabled in 1985, she cared for him tirelessly at home for ten years. When circumstances required a nursing facility for his care, she visited him almost daily for another two years. Her six children are all proud to call her "Mama" and marvel at the life foundation she built for them. We rise up and call her "blessed". Those who married her children applaud her as a wonderful mother-in-law. Her 12 grandchildren were loved by their "Nana". Her 20 great-grandchildren know and will know she was a special lady. There has been much trust in God and answered prayers through the years. Neighbors Mary Kate and Woody Fisher have been a blessing. Most recently we thank God for bringing wonderful people to care for Mama, among them Darcel Jennings and Ernestine Moore and Mary. Cindy, Kim and others with Willowbrook Hospice. Even in her leaving, God answered our prayers that she would be able to pass peacefully, without fear or pain, at home in her own bed in her sleep after a nice visit with us that evening. We give thanks and glory to God. Mama had a great appreciation for the beautiful birds of God's creation. In the final years she was able to stay in her home her husband built. Susie's talents and generosity made it even better for her. Her son Kelly reversed roles years ago and became her loving guardian and caregiver, joking and teasing together while he met her every need. His family hails him as a Champion and has our lasting admiration and gratitude. Chairside she enjoyed her new window onto flowers and birds, deer and chipmunks. She enjoyed her family's photos scrolling before her and the framed message to all "His eye is on the sparrow and I know He watches me." Thanks be to God for the lady and mother such as we were privileged to know. We will do well to "go and do likewise" and to remember Jesus Christ all our days. Those who passed before her are her parents, Homer and Rubye Bullock and husband, James. Among those who miss her - Children Mike (Linda) Sweeney, Lynne (Tommy) Daniel, Susie (Tommy) Parker, Cindy Page, Scott (Rhonda) Sweeney, Kelly Sweeney; grandchildren Patrick Sweeney, Shannon (Cory) Call, Eve (Dale) Jackson, Todd (Priscilla) Daniel, Nathan (Becca) Daniel, Amber (John) Pierce, Thomas (Katie) Parker, Justin Parker, Chris (Kristen) Parker, Carter (Ashley) Page, Jimmy Sweeney, Alan Sweeney (Samantha Albritton); great-grandchildren Britton, Sadie Call; Seth, Holt, Clay Jackson; Addison, Tru Daniel; Fenley Daniel; Lily, Ryan, Johno, Anna, Jody Pierce; Farris, Cook Parker; Mason, Maggie, Mary Owen Parker; Reese Page; Britton Sweeney.
