Charleene Ross Smith was born May 9, 1948 in Clarksville, Tennessee to Viola Margaret Smith and George Alexander Smith, Jr., the eldest daughter of four children. 

Charleene graduated from Woodlawn High School in Dover, Tennessee and went on to earn her associate’s degree. She married her husband James (Jim) H. Murdock and had one child. Charleene loved to travel, including many road trips, overseas journeys and cruises, a favorite place being Alaska. An avid crafter, Charleene created beautiful works of art with her incredible sewing skills. But most of all, Charleene loved her family and friends. 

Charleene is preceded in death by her husband, James H. Murdock, her mother, Viola Smith, her father, George Smith, her brother, Woodrow “Woody” Smith, and brother Jerry Smith. 

She is survived by her son, Michael Hill Murdock, her sister Delphia Smith Selem (Hashem), and her brother George Smith (Janice). Charleene was also a cherished aunt to Camelia, Maleek, David, Steven and Janet. 

A visitation with the family will be held on Monday, October 28 from 9am to 1pm at Harpeth Hills funeral home with memorial service following visitation. Interment will immediately follow at Greenbrier Cemetery in Greenbrier, Tennessee.
