Charles Everett Bain, 96, was born on March 29, 1928, in Covington, Kentucky. He passed suddenly on May 24, 2024, in Nashville, Tennessee. Charles was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, and cherished friend.
Charles is preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Marjorie Ann Baker; his parents, Russell Bain and Sophie Huninghake Bain; sister, Louise Curry; and brothers, Russell Bain, Jr., and Eugene Bain.
Charles is survived by his daughter, Carol (Kevin) Kelly; son, Scott Bain; and grandsons, Graham Kelly and Christopher Kelly.
Charles lived with passion and dedication.
A World War II veteran, he voluntarily served in the United States Marine Corps, displaying bravery and commitment to country.
Charles graduated from Dixie Heights High School, Fort Mitchell, Kentucky, in 1945. He attended Georgetown College in Kentucky, earning a bachelor’s degree in economics and business, cum laude, in 1950. He later continued his education at the Nashville School of Law, earning a J.D. in 1966.
He worked as a corporate attorney, first with Genesco and later with Service Merchandise, where he was vice president of their legal department.
In retirement, Charles was an avid golfer – even once scoring a hole-in-one at the Harpeth Hills golf course. He relished opportunities to travel and explore new destinations alongside his beloved wife, Marjorie. Cherished moments were spent visiting his grandsons who held a special place in his heart. He filled many days with flower and vegetable gardening.
A longtime member of Second Presbyterian Church in Nashville, he served as an elder and on many committees there.
Charles will be deeply missed by all who knew him. May his legacy continue to inspire us all to live with purpose and love.
