Charles "Charlie" Wayne Frith, age 86, died peacefully on Friday, March 6th in Nashville TN after a long illness. He was born on May 23, 1933, the youngest son of Evelyn Butts Frith and Charles T. Frith.
He is survived by his best friend and loving wife of 67 years, Barbara Salyer Frith, their four children: Lisa Frith, Amy Frith and Howard, Patrick Frith and Stacey, Darice Hudgins and Ben and his sister and brother-in-law, Peggy Frith Johnson and Don. He is also survived by four grandchildren: Josephine Frith, Carlos Frith, Christopher Ransome and Teresa, and Kevin Ransome and five great grandchildren. He was predeceased in death by his son, Michael Frith and his granddaughter, Michelle Ransome.
Charlie was known for his humor, his kindness, and his unique ability to make everyone around him feel like they were the most important person in the room. He graduated from West End High School in Nashville in 1951. He attended Austin Peay State College in Clarksville, TN where he played football prior to graduating in economics from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. He served in the Army during the Korean War. He retired from Travelers Insurance where he worked for most of his career in commercial lines. He raised his children in Richmond VA where he was an active volunteer in his neighborhood association, voter registration and at the voting polls. He attended Seventh St. Christian Church and Bon Air Baptist Church. Prior to his illness, he was also a member of The Romeos Men's group in Bon Air.
Charlie devoted most of his time to teaching his children, his grandchildren and his great grandchildren to laugh loud, to love always, to observe the small moments of life's beauty and to always give back to family and community in greater quantity than you take.
The family asks that you hold your loved ones close and hug them often. In lieu of flowers, please donate to The American Cancer Society, The Alzheimer's Foundation of America or a charity of your choice.
