Chester Spencer, age 93 of Nashville, passed away Saturday night at St. Thomas West Hospital.
A native of Jingo, TN, Chester was the last surviving child of Billy Burton Spencer and Emma Elizabeth Priscilla Anderson Spencer. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II, stationed in England but fighting in Germany and France, and specifically at Normandy.
He was retired from Genesco Shoe, starting his career there when they were known as General Shoe Company.
Chester "never met a stranger, and would talk to anyone and everyone," stated his daughter. He will best be remembered as social and outgoing. He enjoyed his time with his Charlotte Pike McDonald's Buddies.
He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law: June and Jimmy Roberson, and Darlene and Larry Cochran, all of Nashville; four grandchildren: Joshua Roberson, Sarah (Micah) Henley, Heather (Bryan) Bates and Jared (Heather) Cochran; and three great-grandchildren: Charlie, Madeline and Samuel Cochran.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Tuesday from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m., and again Wednesday from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Harpeth Hills Funeral Home, officiated by Brother Clifford Dobbs. Burial, with military honors provided by the United States Army, will follow in Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens.
