Clara Elizabeth Silverstein (née Rolf), of Nashville, TN died in her home, surrounded by her family on May 31, 2017. She was 81 years old.
Clara is survived by her brother Monsignor John Rolf of Naples FL; her sons, Scott Silverstein of Hawthorn Woods, IL (Jennie), Steven Silverstein of Marlborough, MA (Ellen) and John Silverstein of Springfield, TN (Tonya); her five grandchildren; Zach, Trevor, Harry, Brad, and Clara; and her great-grandchildren Jackson and Emma. She is preceded in death by her husband, Harry Silverstein of Nashville, TN; her parents, Dr. John Rolf and Ruth G Rolf of Ft. Thomas, KY; and her sister Ruth Burge of Carson City, NV and her brother Charles of Covington, KY.
Clara was born on January 15, 1936 in Covington KY and was raised in Covington, KY with her brother and sister. She attended high school at Notre Dame Academy in Covington, KY. After High School, she was a flight attendant for American Airlines working out of the New York hub. Clara moved to Nashville following her marriage to Harry Silverstein. Harry worked as an executive with Decca Records here in Nashville along with Owen Bradley, the creator of the "Nashville Sound". She was widowed at a young age with boys aged 3, 6, and 9 years old. She began working for First American Bank in Nashville and had a wonderful career there as an Assistant Vice President in Executive Services. On behalf of the bank, she welcomed hundreds of newcomers to Nashville. She never met a stranger her entire life and her career there lasted over 25 years.
While working at the bank, Clara managed to raise three sons on her own. She was a strong, energetic, and hard-working mother for her family. Her grandchildren will remember her as a fun-loving person who loved them unconditionally. She was an avid gardener and created a beautiful home and garden in Nashville.
Clara passed away peacefully in her home after a short illness. She will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother, supportive sister, and friend to many.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 am Friday, June 16, 2017 in the Chapel of St. Henry Catholic Church with a reception to follow. Visitation will be one hour prior to service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Alive Hospice 1718 Peterson Road Nashville, TN 37203 or the Nashville Humane Society.
