Curtis “Curt” William Matson was born on September 7, 1955, in Chadron, Nebraska. He peacefully passed away on April 17, 2024, in Fairview, Tennessee.
Preceded in death by parents Alvin "Bud" and Darleen Matson; brothers Johnny Matson and Mike Matson; father-in-law Earle Reeger and sisters-in-law Joanne Creek and Deb Matson.
Curt is survived by his loving wife of 47 years Chris Matson; children Michelle (Paul) Haston, Nicholas (Julie) Matson, Stephen (Ashley) Matson; grandchildren Paul Vincent Haston, Anthony Haston, Mason Haston, Noah Matson, Nicholas Matson, Faith Matson, Seth Matson; siblings Cherie (Edward) Gbur, Jim Matson, Wayne (Tina) Matson, Randa (Craig) Salazar; brother-in-law Jim (Charlene) Reeger; mother in law Estela Reeger; fur baby Phoebe as well as numerous nieces nephews and loved ones.
Curt had a fulfilling career, retiring as a machinist before beginning his passion for being a handyman for over twenty years.
One of the defining aspects of Curt's life was his enduring love story with Chris. They had been inseparable since they were teenagers at the ages of 14 and 15. Their bond was a testament to true love and stood the test of time.
Described as someone who never hesitated to help others and always had a joke ready to lighten the mood, Curt was known for his kind heart and sense of humor. He found joy in simple pleasures like fishing, attending festivals, listening to bluegrass music, going on vacations with loved ones, and doing woodworking projects. He enjoyed family gatherings, especially the BBQs and get-togethers that brought everyone together. One of his favorite things to do was picking shells with Chris during their adventures together on the beach.
Among Curt's proudest accomplishments was his sobriety journey spanning over 31 years. He was actively involved in Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and made a positive impact by sponsoring and assisting others in their own paths to recovery.
Curtis William Matson's memory will live on through the countless lives he touched with his generosity and laughter. May he rest in peace knowing that he made this world a brighter place with his presence.
Visitation will be Tuesday, April 23, 2024 from 8:30am -10:00am with a Celebration of Life at 10:00am and visitation to follow from 11:00am ~ 12:00pm all at the Pavilion at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home 9090 Highway 100 Nashville, TN 37221.
The family would like to welcome everyone to their home for a Reception pool party and BBQ.
