David was born in Chillicothe, Missouri on December 21, 1950. He was raised in Breckenridge, Missouri, attended the University of Missouri and later graduated from Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas. On August 12, 1980, David married Kay Stookey, and after her death, later married Tammy Teal. His career in insurance sales brought him to Tennessee, where he made his home in Burns and later Franklin. As a top salesman for National Teachers Associates (NTA), he received many awards, but health issues led to an early retirement.
David Bennett was energetic, outgoing, affable, and most always the life of the party. He loved music, singing, playing piano, and especially dancing. A member of Temple Hills Golf Course, David was an avid golfer and loved competition. He was a gifted athlete, enjoying sports of all kinds. Being raised on a farm, he also loved the outdoors whether that included fishing, hunting, or camping with his family. Those who know him best know how much he loved his fresh corn and homegrown tomatoes. Above all else, David was a "people person." He put tremendous value in his relationships with both family and friends. As a devoted father, he taught the importance of hard work and took great delight in attending his children's activities.
He leaves behind three loving daughters: Sally (Josh) Cohen, Katie, and Haley Bennett. Preceding him in death are his beloved wife and son, Bryce Bennett in 2006 and Kay in 1991. His parents, Wayne and Helen Bennett, also preceded him in death.
Also surviving are brother, Mike (Gwen) Bennett of Cape Girardeau, Missouri: sisters Debby Stout, Ellen (Rob) Robson and step-mother, Jo Bennett all of Kansas City, Missouri. He leaves a large extended family including aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and their families.
The family will receive friends on Friday, May 16, 2014 from 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home where a celebration of David's life will be conducted on Saturday, May 17, 2014 at 2:00 PM with a visitation one hour prior to service.
