DeLoraine Gray Hollingsworth Zimmermann

DeLoraine Gray Hollingsworth Zimmermann, 94, of Nashville, passed away peacefully on November 11, 2021, after a long illness.

DeLoraine was very devoted to her family, which included four children, six grandchildren, eight brothers and sisters, and many nieces and nephews. She was a dental hygienist in Nashville for more than 50 years and served many loyal patients and families. She loved travel, gardening and live performances. She was a longtime member of Belmont United Methodist Church in Nashville. DeLoraine was active in professional organizations, including the Tennessee Dental Hygienists’Association, serving as President in 1956-57. She was formerly married to Hermann F. Zimmermann.

Born in Ethelsville, Alabama, DeLoraine spent her childhood in Calhoun County, Mississippi. After high school, she attended Northwestern University Dental School in Chicago, graduating with a degree in Dental Hygiene in 1948.

She is survived by son Herman F. Zimmermann, Jr. (“Fritz”) of Lebanon, daughters Karen Mevis of Kingston Springs and Lisa Z. Russell of Franklin; six grandchildren – Jennifer Russell of Franklin, Kaitlyn Russell of Nashville, Nathan Byrd of Portsmouth, VA, Tyler Byrd (Kristin) of N. Prince George, VA, Lanie Byrd of Chester, VA, and Sean M. Mevis of Kingston Springs. She is also survived by her brother Tony Hollingsworth (Ann) of Nashville. She was preceded in death by her daughter Holly Byrd; her parents Clifton O. Hollingsworth and Inez G. Hollingsworth; sisters Sarah Robinson, Nell Rast, Ophelia Ann Green, and Jerrie Moffat; and brothers Joe Hollingsworth and Carroll Hollingsworth.

Visitation is 9:00 a.m to 11:30 a.m. Friday, December 3, 2021, and a a Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:30 a.m., at Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens, 9090 Hwy.100, Nashville, TN 37221. Interment will follow the service.
