Donald (Don) Edward Bennie, EdD died Wednesday April 24, 2019 at age 88, surrounded by his loving family. Son of the late Andrew and Sylvia Bennie, born March 4,1931 in Bloomfield, IN. Don served in the US Air Force from 1950-1954 during the Korean Conflict. He graduated from Indiana State University in 1957 and married Nancy Barker in August of that same year. Don received his doctorate degree in Education from Indiana University in 1969. Don was employed as a school counselor, a principal and finished his career as the school system psychologist for the Williamson County school system. Don was a long-time member of Woodson Chapel Church of Christ in Nashville, TN and longtime elder of Bonita Drive Church of Christ in Middletown, OH.
Preceded in death by mother Sylvia Bennie, father Andrew Bennie and older brother William (Billy) Bennie. Don was proud of the fact that his father served in WW1, brother served in WW2, and he served in the Korean Conflict. Survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Nancy and children Joseph (Sheila) Bennie, Jeffrey (Jane) Bennie, Jonathan (Kelly) Bennie and Betsy (Richard) Edgeworth. Grandchildren Sarah (Tony) McKay, Amanda (Jason) Brazier, Laurie (Paavo) Tucker, Rebecca Bennie, Cynthia (Kevin) Newcomb, Blake Bennie, Natalie Bennie, Jake Bennie, Ian Bennie, Kali (Daniel) Klintworth, Lucas Bennie, Malia Bennie and Nate Edgeworth. Great grandchildren Jemma McKay, Ty Newcomb, Judah Brazier, Benton McKay, Anthony McKay, Elliot Brazier, Charlie Newcomb and Hannah Tucker.
Don loved basketball (especially Lipscomb University games), coaching, attending as many of his grandchildren's ball games as he could, spending time with his great grandchildren and buying seasonal musical toys to annoy his loving wife.
A celebration of life will be held Friday April 26th lO o'clock at Woodson Chapel Church of Christ. Interment and graveside services to be held at Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens at 1:30 following the celebration of life.
