Dori J. Mikus passed away February 21, 2017 surrounded by her family. Dori was born Dorothea Kopsovich on October 24, 1951, in Uniontown, PA to Edward S. Kopsovich (Deceased) and Mary Ann Rejzer (Deceased). Dori was the cherished wife of Martin for more than 39 years; beloved mother of Jenna (Dan); caring sister to brother Gerald Kopsovich (Rosalind) and sister Joanne Ingle (Neal) and to brothers-in-law Patrick (Josephine), Dennis (Gina), and Gerard (Georgette); and supportive aunt to nephew Jerod Ingle (Julie) and nieces Mary Beth Kopsovich, Heather Mikus and Megan Mikus.
Dori received a BS in Business Management with High Honors. She was a high-level support resource to the Director of Master of Arts in Art Therapy at Ursuline College in Pepper Pike, OH for 3 years and the Director of Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing at Vanderbilt in Nashville, TN for 13 years. Dori was known to all as a tireless woman of generosity, intelligence and influence. Towards the latter part of her career, Dori was self-employed, working resourcefully to manage fundraising campaigns for 2010 Nashville flood victims, the House of Mercy, and numerous other not-for-profit organizations.
Dori, an accomplished soprano, loved singing with choirs and choruses in Ohio and Tennessee, including the Nashville Symphony Chorus, in which she sang for nearly 20 years. Dori was very artistic. She was an excellent chef and baker, who loved to entertain, and a certified master gardener with an incredible green thumb. Her innate ability to make everything beautiful will be missed.
Dori's celebration of life will begin with a family and friends visitation in the St. Henry Catholic Church Narthex, 6401 Harding Pike, Nashville, TN, 37205, Saturday, March 4, 9:30-11:00 a.m. The Funeral Mass follows at 11:00 a.m. An announcement will relate reception particulars. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital in Memphis, TN or towards pancreatic cancer-focused research via PanCAN.
