Dorothy Burns, 90, passed away at her home in Nashville, Tennessee, on Tuesday, July 20, 2021, after an extended illness. Born in Old Hickory, Tennessee, Mrs. Burns spent most of her early years on her family’s farm in Williamson County. There she met the love of her life, Joe Burns, to whom she was married for 68 years.
Mrs. Burns was very athletic, and, throughout her life, quite a competitor. She loved to play softball in her younger days, and was a die-hard Atlanta Braves fan. She was also an exceptional bowler, as evidenced by her very crowded trophy case.
Mrs. Burns was preceded in death by her parents, Johnie and Connie Curtis, siblings Charles, Johnny, Martha, and Robert Curtis; her husband, Joe Burns; and her grandson, Jayme Burns. She is survived by three siblings, Wanda Burns, Ben Curtis and Billy Curtis; and sons Dan Burns (Susan), Don Burns (Jimmy Gibson), and Mike Burns (Joyce). She was also a devoted grandmother to her grandson Eric Burns; her four adopted grandchildren, Nikki, Logan, Caroline, and Annabelle; and her three great-grandchildren, Daniel Burns, Keegan Burns, and Kendall Burns.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Saturday, July 24, from 9:30am until the time of graveside services at 11:00am. Both the visitation and the service will be held at Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens (9090 Highway 100, Nashville, Tennessee).
