Dorothy "Joy" McKinney age 65 of Gallatin, Tennessee passed away at Alive Hospice Thursday, March 7, 2019 at 9:20 pm after a lengthy illness. She was surrounded by family and friends. A celebration of her life was held Saturday, March 9th at Bellevue United Methodist Church with Pastor Brian M. Marcoulier officiating.
Joy was born July 5, 1953 in Macon, GA to the late Edward G. and Faye L. McKinney. She graduated from Monroe Academy in Forsyth, GA and The College of Coastal Georgia with a degree in nursing. She then furthered her education at Vanderbilt University. Joy had a passion for helping others, both in her personal and professional life while working at Vanderbilt University Medical Center on the Myelosuppression Unit from 1995-1997. After leaving VUMC, Joy owned and operated Clinical Trial Services, Inc. in the cancer research field.
Joy is preceded in death by her parents and sister Jamie "Bunkie" Johnson.
She survived by her brothers and sisters Bobby McKinney (Wendy) of San Antonio, Texas, Donny McKinney (Kathleen) of Macon, GA, Mittie Smith (Tommy) of Brunswick, GA, Sandee Tebeau (Tony) of Montana, and many nieces and nephews.
Joy's life was a testament to her favorite saying "Never give up and believe in yourself", because no matter what adversity she faced she persevered!
