Douglas Hill Cope

Douglas H. Cope, age 84, passed way peacefully on June 5, 2024 in Franklin, TN. He was born on August 23, 1939 in Johnson City, TN to Hill and Pauline Cope.  He grew up in Sparta, TN and graduated from White County High School.

He served honorably in the United States Navy for 4 years during the Vietnam War.

He was a faithful Christian accepting Christ in 1972.  He had the honor of serving as a deacon, and later elder, at the Madison Church of Christ for 10 years.  He was a member of Harpeth Hills Church of Christ. He was actively involved at Goodpasture Christian School for many years serving on the Presidents Board under his lifetime friend and school President Dr. Bill Ruhl.  He loved golfing, walking, reading, gardening…and University of Tennessee Football.  

He was preceded in death by his father Hill Cope, his mother Pauline Bain Cope, sisters Billie Hughes and Patricia Bensing.

He is survived by his wife Kathy Saylors Cope, daughters Stephanie (Alan) Banks, Kristin Hasty, and Ashley (Clint) Watts, sister Bobbie Coots, Nine grandchildren: A.T. Banks, Kathleen Banks, Alexandra Banks (Joel) Zwiers, Ashtin Banks (Carson) Rains, Taylor Hasty (Will) Cole, Parker Hasty, Emma Watts (Brady) Miller, Levi (Bethany) Watts, William Watts.  Four great-grandchildren: Saylor Rains, River Rains, Charlotte Cole, Annie Zwiers and “another” great-grandchild due in November, 2024.

Honorary Pallbearers are:  Alan T. Banks, A.T. Banks, Clint Watts, Levi Watts, Will Watts, Greg Jett, David Eble, Phil Saylors, Dudley Carter, Dr. Bill Ruhl, Dr. Roy Ezell.

Visitation will be on Saturday, June 15, 2024 at Harpeth Hills Church of Christ, 1949 Old Hickory Blvd, Brentwood, TN  from 11am to 12:30pm in the “Community Room”.

The funeral will follow at 1pm in the Community Room at Harpeth Hills Church of Christ.

The burial will be conducted at a later date TBD.
