Edith Abolins, age 72, passed away on the morning of Sunday, March 29th at her nursing home in Nashville, Tennessee. Edith had a full and adventurous life which took her from occupied Burma (now Myanmar) where she was born in 1942 to Nashville, TN. Her parents were Joseph Barnabas, a public health administrator in Rangoon (now Yangon), and homemaker Gladys Barnabas, and she had a sister, Bertha, who is now also deceased. A lifelong Roman Catholic, Edith attended convent schools and briefly taught elementary school in Myanmar. She was certified as a secretary by Pitney Bowes and worked for Warner Brothers and the U.S. embassy in Burma. After coming to the U.S. in 1967, she worked as a secretary at The Ohio State University, where she met and married undergraduate Peter Abolins. With Peter, she raised a daughter, Dianna, and son, Mark, in California. In recent years, she attended St. Ann Catholic Church and the Cathedral of the Incarnation in Nashville. Edith played the guitar as a young woman and greatly enjoyed listening to live music at restaurants in Hillsboro Village and other Nashville locations. She also had a passion for animals, including wildlife and dogs. Edith is survived by her daughter Dianna, her son Mark, his wife Ginger, and Mark and Ginger's son, Aidan. Mark is a professor at Middle Tennessee State University and her grandson, Aidan, attends St. Ann School in Nashville.
