Edna Ruth Dean, 87, of Nashville, Tennessee, died peacefully in her sleep on February 2, 2020, at NHC in Franklin, TN. Born August 26, 1932 in Cedar Hill, TN, she is preceded in death by her parents, Roy Lee and Obera James of Cedar Hill, TN and her husband Joe B. Dean Sr. of Nashville.

Ruth was a caring mom and homemaker. She was well-loved by all who knew her. Upon graduation from Jo Byrns High School in 1950, she attended Austin Peay State University and worked as a stenographer for Commerce Union Bank, Life of Virginia, Metro City government neighborhood services and Bell South. Ruth was a faithful member of Park Avenue Baptist Church from the late 1950s until the mid-1990s when she moved to Bellevue. She joined and attended Bellevue Baptist Church until her health began to fail.

In the closing years of her life, Ruth was confined to assisted-care facilities. Birthdays, holidays, and other special occasions were held at these facilities and the family gathered to be with her. She was showered with love and always had a smile for everyone.

Survivors include her three children, Bruce Dean (Lori) of Murfreesboro, Stephanie Farrar (Mark) of College Grove and James Dean (Sheryl) of Nashville; her grandchildren, Lindsey Farrar, Seth Dean, Will Dean, Lydia Dean and Sarah Dean; her sister, Mary Frances Moss of Evansville, IN, and her brother, John B. James of Murfreesboro.

A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, February 8 at the Bellevue Baptist Church with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. and funeral service to follow at 12 noon. Burial service will be held at Elmwood Cemetery, Springfield, TN at 2:30 p.m.
