Edward "Ed" David Jordan, age 87 born on August 2, 1933 peacefully passed on September 1, 2020.
Edward is survived by his dedicated son, Kevin Jordan and wife Nancy as well as three precious grandchildren Tim (Katherine), Brendan and Katie Jordan whom all reside in Tennessee.
His surviving siblings and in-laws include Virginia Jordan, Bill & Patricia Jordan, Daniel & Maureen Donohue, Kevin & Sue Jordan, Joan Jordan, Brian & Peggy Jordan, Indar & Joan Durbal, Christopher & Eileen Gjersvik, Herb & Mary Canapary, Paddy Joe & Margaret Dolan, Breege McGovern, and Tom & Cindy Flood as well as many godchildren, nieces and nephews residing mainly in the New York area as well as throughout the United States, Ireland and England.
He was preceded by death by his parents James and Josephine (Cronin) Jordan from Cork, Ireland as well as his adored & beautiful wife, Ellen "Ellie" Dolan Jordan from County Cavin, Ireland.
Edward was also preceded in death by his beloved brothers David Jordan, John Jordan, James Jordan and caring sisters Peggy Dassinger & Kathleen Leonard along with loving brother in laws and sister in laws Martin Dassinger, Pete Leonard, Terence McGovern, and Farrell Dolan.
Ed enlisted in the United States Army and served proudly. He was honorably discharged on October 21, 1956 but never lost his distinct walk, proper dress nor attention to detail. He loved to reminisce and talk about his time serving in the army. He received the good conduct medal for serving his country honorably and faithfully.
Ed attended Morris High School in the Bronx. He then graduated from New York Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. He had a very successful career working at General Electric, Simplicity and retiring from Belding Heminway. He loved watching his grandchildren and took pride in being their "Pop Pop". He shared many memorable walks with his grandchildren strolling through Bronxville. He would enjoy taking them on train rides, feeding the ducks, stopping in at the local toy store, enjoying a slice of pizza or just grabbing a fresh bagel & coffee. He was really content with just doing the simple things in life.
Ed was an avid New York Yankees fan and cherished every game he watched either from an apartment rooftop, at Yankee Stadium or from his home. He rarely missed a game (never) and if he did it was taped to watch and discussed later. He loved ALL types of music but especially all Irish music, Old Country Music or most recently, he enjoyed listening to Joni James.
His later years in life were dedicated to his large extended family but mainly to helping with the grandkids. Boy, he loved watching them play the multitude of sports they engaged in from elementary school through college. Ed proudly boasted about each of them in a humble and genuine way to anyone who would listen. He even would create special awards for them. Although, as the years went on and he couldn't always make the games or school events; he still proudly watched from home. He took pride in supporting their high school and college teams and again never missed a game. Ed would literally have it up on his screen hours before game time and always had something positive to share about his grandkids or their friends.
Ed really loved his home-life and he spent hours reading, swimming, writing with his eloquent penmanship, yard work, drawing, listening to music, watching old movies & all sports or just connecting with family and friends on his home computer. He stayed quite current on local and world events but especially, still followed the New York newspapers. He was quite savvy and way ahead of his time when it came to computers. Funny, he never really mastered the iPhone but he was an expert on his desktop and wireless printer. He loved to share stories of the old Bronx neighborhood and until his passing had a percipient memory. These last few months he enjoyed his Zoom family calls and relaxing on the deck.
Over the years, he collected many baseball caps and family photos which he truly cherished. They were displayed beautifully throughout his home and these old family photos, graduation photos, baby photos, sibling group photos, or wedding photos just reminded him of family and that was most treasured by him.
Ed resided most of his life in New York from 1933 to 2003 when he left his home in Bronxville, NY and moved to Franklin, TN so he could get closer to his son, Kevin. He was a devoted son, husband, brother, father, and most importantly grandfather (Pop Pop). He loved his baseball caps, warm sweatshirts and comfy sneakers. He never turned down a hot cup of coffee or good sandwich. Ed will be remembered fondly for his kindness, unyielding generosity and unconditional love to his wonderful & caring family.
