Edwin Eugene Martin, age 92 of Nashville, TN passed away on April 19, 2014
Edwin was born in Nashville, Tennessee on March 2, 1922 to the late Neil and Carrie Martin.
He graduated 12th grade from Fountain Head School in Portland, Tennessee and served in the United States Army as a Master Sargent during WW II.
After being honorably discharged, he joined his family in operating El Reposo Sanitarium in Florence, Alabama.
In 1954, he became Administrator of Lawrenceburg Sanitarium and Hospital. After serving in administrative positions in several hospitals and nursing homes, he founded Care More, Inc. in 1971 where he developed and operated 17 nursing homes from Georgia to Hawaii until his retirement in 1986. In 1984, Martin was named Distinguished Administrator of the Year by the American College of Health Care Administrators.
Edwin was a life-long member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church and at the time of his death, was a member of the Martin Memorial SDA Church in Centerville, Tennessee.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Mary Belle Ramsey Martin; three children, Robert Eugene Martin and wife Jeri, Mary Ellen Martin Hagen and husband Dr Ronald Hagen, Judith Ann Martin Wilcox and husband Dr Brian Wilcox; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a large extended family and many friends.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 from 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home, 9090 HWY 100, Nashville, TN where a celebration of Edwin's life will be conducted on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at 1:30 pm with a private interment to follow.
