Farris Odel Cook- Age 80, February 24, 2019.
Preceded in death by her husband, James Cook; parents, Archie and Odel Nash; brother, Archie Hartwell Nash.
She is survived by her children, Kevin Cook, Nikki Tolliver (Frankie), Karen Twele (Chris), Russell Cook (Hope) and Jimmy Cook (Lisa); grandchildren, Lindsey Flottman, Dustin Cook, Josh Cook, Ali Fowler, Emma Twele, Olivia Cook, Cooper Tolliver, Truett Tolliver, Harper Tolliver, Kate Tolliver, Chase Tolliver, Reuben Barringer, Samuel Barringer, Sabrina Barringer and Cody Myatt; sisters, Maie Choate and Mylisa Panek.

Farris enjoyed a variety interests throughout her life. Her extensive collection of teapots was displayed throughout the kitchen. Also, while in Germany as a military wife and mother, she became very fond of Hummel statues and had a beautiful collection of those, along with a diverse collection of rabbits - most notably the Beatrix Potter collection.

A love of gardening shown itself with her ability to grow any kind of flower, plant, or vegetable. Furthermore, she possessed an uncanny ability to take the dying plants she would see at someone's home and bring them back to life. Often, this resulted in a plethora of young plants she would give to everyone - with the caveat of "don't kill it".

Her most notable talent was clearly cooking and baking. Farris possessed an innate skill whereby she could taste a dish in a restaurant and be able to replicate it exactly. Over time, her interest expanded to decorating cakes and cookies and she eventually mastered these skills. This led to catering weddings and making theme cakes for birthday parties.

Her love of family was paramount in her life and she was most happy when surrounded by her family, taking special delight in her children and grand-children. Given the importance of family, most gatherings were held at her house. The kitchen was the hub of her home - and there were never too many "Cook's" in the kitchen. She passed her love of cooking to her children, resulting in them competing in BBQ contests throughout the mid-South. Most influenced by this area of her life was her grandson, Josh, who is now a talented chef.

To relax, Farris enjoyed sitting in her sunroom and watching the birds and squirrels, being particularly fascinated by hummingbirds. There were feeders outside most windows. As she would observe them, they would hover in midair at a window, looking inside at her. When she went outside they would gather around her, fluttering their wings and humming to her.

She now has her wings and can now fly with the hummingbirds.

Visitation will be 4-7 pm on Thursday, February 28, 2019 at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will be at 10 a.m. on Friday at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens. There will be a reception following the services at The Pavilion at Harpeth Hills.
