Floyd Martin Lockamy, 72, passed away in his Nashville home on Friday July 2nd, 2021.
Floyd has been a professor at Volunteer State University for the past 8 years which allowed him to share his love of Physics and Mathematics with hundreds of students. He also shared thewisdom from his many years of work in the manufacturing industry. He began his career as a Mechanical Engineer after graduating with a master’s degree in physics from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He quickly moved through the ranks of engineering and became Vice President of Engineering for RJ Reynolds, a fast-moving consumer products company. He ultimately became a member of the executive committee for the international operations as Senior Vice President of Customer Service and Manufacturing where he was responsible for building and operating manufacturing plant operations worldwide. After working for RJR he continued consulting in a variety of positions where his engineering and manufacturing/supply chain experiences were needed. Floyd began teaching Physics at the college level in Jacksonville, FL at the Florida Community College of Jacksonville (FCCJ). He also taught Math and Physics at the College of New Rochelle in New Rochelle, NY before coming to Nashville.
Floyd, from Monroe, North Carolina originally met his wife of 52 years, Ellen, in Charlotte, NC. From there, they launched a whirlwind marriage that had them moving to multiple locations. Always up for an adventure, they lived in North Carolina, New York, Virginia, Florida, and even several years in Europe. They loved to travel and greatly enjoyed dancing and experiencing life. Floyd and Ellen are also avid Bridge players locally. Floyd was always active and enjoyed being outdoors. He was an avid golfer and fisherman, he also spent time working in his garden.
Floyd, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather is survived by his beloved wife, Ellen. His son Bob and wife Christie Lockamy along with three grandchildren; Samantha, Caroline, and Alexander of Kennesaw, GA. His Daughter Katie Lockamy and her partner Krista Chambliss in Green Cove Springs, FL. Floyd is also survived by his Mother Ruby Lockamy and brothers Lonnie and Thomas Lockamy and paternal stepsister Lori Lockamy. He was preceded in death by his sister Sandra Kaye Lockamy and his father Lonnie Mack Lockamy.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that those wishing to send well wished please donate to the Nashville Rescue Mission, a charity near and dear to Floyd and Ellen’s heart.
Funeral Mass will be 10 am Tuesday, July 13, 2021, at St Henry Catholic Church. Visitation one hour prior to service.
