Floye Whitehead, 95, known as "Pop" to family and friends, of Nashville, passed away on April 24 at home, surrounded by family. He was born March 11, 1920, in Baxter, TN, son of the late William and Mary Brown Whitehead.
Mr. Whitehead was preceded in death by wives Allene Groves Patten Whitehead ('63) and Edith Gore Whitehead ('02); son Roy T. Whitehead ('04); three brothers, Ray, Odell, and Thurman Whitehead; and four sisters, Hazel Huddleston, Pauline Lawson, Opal Pearson and Lois Pardini.
He was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle. He will be dearly missed. He served in the Air Corp of the US Army during World War II. He retired from TVA. He served as Elder at Pegram Church of Christ for 25 years and was a member of Granny White Church of Christ before moving to Duluth, GA.
He is survived by two daughters, Mary Emily (Randy) Bouldin of Nashville and Mary Ruth (Rick) Furr of Monroe, NC; two sons, Bill Whitehead of Duluth, GA, and Jay Gore (Stephanie) of Nashville; and eight grandchildren, Angela Head, Eric Furr, Adam Whitehead, Brett Furr, Amy Zummo, Emily Graham, McLain Gore and Elijah Whitehead and eight great-grandchildren.
A remembrance of life for will be held Sunday, April 26, at 2:00 p.m. at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home on Highway 100; burial at the Grove Family cemetery, Lyles, TN. Visitation with family will be at the Harpeth Hills Funeral Home from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m. on Sunday.
